We now offer concussion testing at Orangetown Pediatrics.
It’s called ImPACT (Immediate Post concussion Assessment and Cognitive Test) and is a neurocognitive test which is used post-injury to aid in the care of patients who have sustained a concussion.
In order to evaluate the extent of an injury and make return to play recommendations, it is best to have a baseline assessment for all athletes. The baseline test takes 20-25 minutes and evaluates verbal and visual memory, processing speed, and reaction time. It is given to children age 10 and older.
Some of the local high schools offer baseline testing for varsity athletes, but we recommend a baseline test for any child older than 10 who plays sports.
